![]() ![]() Pretty much the same driver KEF uses in its $32,000 BLADE. It's obvious: KEF got things right with an unusual, but obviously brilliantly-designed and well-built driver in a well-braced cabinet. I could superimpose one graph on the other. ![]() I used real time FFT with peak hold on a variety of music streams - with optical wire, no USB here - to get a response almost the same I was getting with two high end headphones. I applied some EQ to take down the bass (along with the speaker's own built-in DSP functions to limit the output, which was overwhelming). My flat there, in an 1847 World Heritage building, has 4 meter high ceilings, meter thick walls, and parquet. I think others have had the same experience as I.īut the KEFs didn't realize their performance limits until I dragged them to Budapest in two luggages. There is no upside to external components and wires not as well matched to the driver as KEF accomplished within the whole package. The built-in DAC/amps outperformed the nekkid speaker with a far more expensive external amplifier. ![]() The powered model was significantly better than the base speaker with any amplifier I used it with. Simply put, it way exceeded my expectations here in the US where I tested them first. On a whim for my Budapest flat I purchased the second pair of LS50's, this time the wireless W-designated model. Until recently the Brit audiophile product was off my radar. Manufacturer: KEF, GP Acoustics (UK) Ltd., Eccleston Road, Tovil, Maidstone, Kent ME15 6QP, England, UK. Number of dealers: not disclosed, but available online from KEF and other online resellers. "Designed and Engineered in the UK, Made in China." Weight: 17.2lb (7.8 kg) each.įinish: Four matte finishes: Carbon Black, Titanium gray, Mineral Blue, Royal Blue Special Edition. Drive-units: 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array with 1" (25mm) vented aluminum-dome tweeter, 5.25" (130mm) magnesium/aluminum alloy-cone woofer. This leads to improved clarity, with exceptional depth and detail.Description: Two-way, reflex-loaded, stand-mounted loudspeaker. Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the port flare and profile of LS50 Meta’s patented off-set port is calculated to delay the onset of turbulence, and the flexible port walls prevent resonances from colouring the midrange. The result of such meticulous attention to detail is the lowest coloration of any speaker in its class. LS50 Meta’s baffle is engineered from an injection-moulded Dough Moulding Compound (DMC), while inside the cabinet cross bracing and Constrained Layer Damping (CLD) combine to deaden internal vibrations. The result is cleaner, more precise sound. It’s smooth curved surfaces help radiate sound out across the baffle without any interference from hard edges, which cause diffraction. LS50 Meta’s low-diffraction, curved baffle is precision modelled around the Uni-Q driver array. LS50 Meta is such a loudspeaker, and enhancements over the legendary LS50 include Driver Performance Optimisation and patented off-set flexible port for the best acoustic performance and an incredible immersive sound. Great loudspeakers disappear, leaving just the music. This new driver array delivers reduced coloration, less distortion and a sound that is more transparent and life-like than previously possible, all dispersed evenly throughout the room. Using advanced simulation and analysis tools, our engineers have developed the 12th generation Uni-Q with MAT. A truly revolutionary tool in the KEF acoustic armoury, Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) is a highly complex maze-like structure that absorbs 99% of the unwanted sound from the rear of the driver, eliminating the resulting distortion and providing purer, more natural sound.Įvery spot is the sweet spot 12th generation Uni-Q with MAT
